Seventeen Wanderers braved the cold, windy weather at Barwon Heads on Friday 10th August. Seven very brave campers parked their caravans away from the windy ridge overlooking the heads to a more protected area. Meanwhile ten, not so brave campers, stayed in luxurious cabins… they did have to walk or drive to the camp kitchen though!
At Happy Hour we all met in the camp kitchen to eat, drink and be merry. We then planned for the next day’s activities. There were a few choices of road trips, Torquay, Anglesea, Portarlington and the Queenscliff Fort. We were fortunate that the weather was fine, although still windy. Saturday night saw us heading to the Barwon Heads pub for dinner. A very busy place with a wide choice of meals.
On Sunday many of us wanted to check out the Spirit of Tasmania coming through the heads so we could wave to Judy and Rob’s daughter. Some of us then headed to the Point Lonsdale market where we had lunch and purchased a few local products. We returned to camp and shared our day’s activities with one another at Happy Hour.
On Monday some of us had to leave while the rest went for walks and then lunched at The Jetty (Diver Dan’s shed from Sea Change!) A game of Rummikub in one of the cabins made for a warm and enjoyable afternoon.
Congratulations to those who braved the weather as it was a fun weekend with a chance to rediscover this beautiful part of Victoria.
