Kilcunda Rally
Report 25th Feb - 1st March 2021 Heidi Messner & Brigitte Salwat "Come when you can, leave when you must." |
Kilcunda Report
With the determination to enjoy ourselves and the delight of being out again after lockdown, this rally was predestined to become a resounding success. Caravaners poured out of the woodwork in droves, making an unprecedented total of 52 attendees. And all agreed: it was a wonderful rally.
The weather was on our side. The park management was most supportive, bringing more chairs to the camp kitchen so that we could spread into the under-cover outdoor area without having to carry our own. Despite some fears on the part of organisers, about managing such a large number, the program ran very smoothly with a good balance of organised activities and free time.
On the Friday a convoy to Agnes Falls took us through beautiful countryside. Sitting outdoors for a picnic lunch felt so carefree. On the way home we walked along the long pier at Port Welshpool which used to be a slipway for repairing the old cargo ships. The winch and old diving bell were on display.
On Saturday morning some people went on a bike ride with Lorraine. Others waited till the afternoon for their exercise by walking along the Screw Creek Track in Inverloch. On the way we stopped at The Caves inlet to look for fossils. The tide was too far in to see the dinosaur footprints and the caves themselves. In the evening the Kilcunda pub was able to accommodate us all and we had the whole indoor space to ourselves.
On Sunday there was a drive to a morning tea of scones and tarts at The Grove, a café in a beautiful setting, ideal for a short stroll and with grand views hidden by fog. The Kongwak market was an interesting stop for some on the way back.
Good communication on the part of organisers and people sometimes breaking into smaller groups or doing their own thing ensured that the rally never felt too big.
So, a big thank you to Heidi and Brigitte.
