Virtual Rally
Report Friday 30th January 2020 4.30 - 5.30 (?) pm Parkhills |
The raging bush fires in Victoria this summer affected everyone, maybe not with direct losses but with empathy for those who suffered so tragically. Our caravan club saw an opportunity to help.
We remembered our wonderful rally at the Colac Colac Caravan Park in Corryong in April 2018 and discovered that they had not been able to open to visitors during the whole of December and January, their highest income period.
So we initiated a "Virtual Rally". The aim was for individual members to contact the caravan park and make a virtual booking without actually going there, in other words donate the cost of one or two nights.
We would then have an actual happy hour at Parkhills on Friday 30th January.
The whole project was a resounding success. Our members managed to donate an amazing total of $1592.00 with more members intending to donate. The gratitude of Melissa and Paul was movingly emotional.
To top that our happy hour was extremely well received. It turned out to be a great meet and greet opportunity for new members but also a happy reunion for ongoing members: such a good start a to the year that I will bring it up at our AGM to repeat it next year and start a new tradition. We don't have all that many opportunities for the whole group to meet, particularly for members who cannot make it to many rallies.
The one planned hour proved far too short, with most people staying quite some time longer.
So thanks to a wonderful group.
Brigitte.
