Warburton Rally Report 15th - 19th August 2019 Organisers: Dennis & Norma Robb |
To all those who shied away from a bit of weather or thought they might have something better to do, go hang your head in regret.
Yes, we did have wind and weather on Thursday night, some broken awnings, flying steps, tables and rubbish bins and raincoats dripping in vans but that's a bit of adventure. Our memories are of the friendly, supportive company, the beauty and the interest. And it provided a great excuse for a cosy lunch together in a friendly cafe.
On Thursday we could actually enjoy happy hour outdoors around a warm fire. The small size of the group allowed us to huddle nice and close.
On Friday the rain let up in the afternoon, allowing us a beautiful drive along the Woods Point Road for a delightful walk through the Sequoia Forest and along the Yarra and then to the Big and Little Peninsula Tunnels (relics of gold mining days). The rushing, gushing Yarra after so much rain was impressive. Unfortunately the road to the Upper Yarra Dam was closed.
Saturday's weather was great and some of us drove to Noojee in the sunshine, visiting the old trestle bridge, a truly impressive structure, and the Alpine Trout Farm., though the road to the Toorongo Falls was also closed. Others enjoyed the wonderful nature walks or the township of Warburton. Dinner at the Warburton Hotel in Wesburn saw a full turn-out of all 19 participants.
With another dire weather forecast for Sunday night and Monday, most of us packed up and left on Sunday.
I'm sure we all returned home enriched and grateful for the opportunity to get out into such a beautiful area, with a feeling of belonging to such a great group of people, so thanks to Dennis and Norma for making it possible.
