May 18th -22nd - Ararat Rally
19 members attended the Ararat rally staying at the Acacia caravan park. The rally kicked off with a lively happy hour on Thursday evening in the camp kitchen. Tourist information about activities on offer for the group to enjoy was provided. The weather over the weekend although cool was perfect for exploring all that Ararat and surrounding areas had to offer.
On Friday morning 10 members attended a J Ward tour hosted by a very informative guide Anne. This tour provided an overview of J ward’s history as a Jail and later as an asylum for the criminally insane. This experience provided some insight into what life behind J Wards bluestone walls might have been like all those years ago.
Once again the Friday night happy hour proved to be a lively affair with lots of chatter about activities walks, museum visits, scenic drives, gardens and local lunch spots members had explored that day. Yes, of course there was lots of chat about the footy too. Happy hour was followed by a delicious dinner of complimentary Pizza. This was a very kind gesture that was appreciated and enjoyed by all those in attendance. Special thanks to Kaylene, Matt and Acacia Caravan Park staff who went above and beyond for our group.
Saturday was choose your own activity day. The local wineries and Seppelt Underground Cellar tour were popular choices as were visits to the Gum San Chinese heritage Centre. Others chose the ‘Explore the Grampians Way’ option visiting Avoca, Halls Gap, and walks in the Grampians national park. The traditional Saturday night dinner was held at the Chalambar Golf club where the food was wholesome and very enjoyable.
Sunday was overcast and drizzly, causing morning tea in the cosy camp kitchen to be extended. By afternoon members were catching up on what they didn't do yesterday, including Stawell with its lookout and working gold mine.
We hope you all had fun and enjoyed yourselves. We wish members who are travelling north and overseas in coming months a happy holiday and safe journey.
