Shepparton Rally – Monday 19th – Friday 23rd April 2021
Another large rally group (of forty-nine participants) spent the week enjoying Shepparton and its surrounds. Apart from some strong gusts of wind and rain on Tuesday afternoon, the weather was fine and allowed everyone to make the most of what the Goulburn Valley has to offer.
On Tuesday one group enjoyed an historical walking tour of Shepparton ably guided by some very smartly dressed and informative volunteers from the Shepparton Information Centre. Others enjoyed the shopping precinct, a walk around the Victoria Park Lake or the Kaiela Arts Gallery.
After all the rain, Wednesday dawned cloudless with a blue sky and bright sunshine perfect for our tag-a-long adventure. The morning stop was at the beautifully preserved 19th century Day’s Flour Mill. The Parks Victoria organiser and her volunteers proudly showed us around the heritage listed flour mill, the two storey home dating to about 1865 and the refurbished gate house. We also viewed the many outbuildings while wandering around in the sunshine. Waranga Basin was a lovely sunny setting for our picnic lunch. In the afternoon many visited the Tatura Irrigation and War Museum and then indulged in a delicious afternoon tea at the bakery.
On Thursday a group followed the beautiful silo art trail running from Goorambat near Benalla to Tungamah, south of Yarrawonga. Others visited the Shepparton Botanic Gardens or the Monichino winery at Katunga. That evening the Peppermill Inn provided great food and delicious desserts in a spacious setting after which many of us enjoyed Rob Fairbairn’s wonderful musical entertainment.
Other activities undertaken included: hiking up Mt Major at Dookie, wandering around the old gold diggings at Whroo, visiting and shopping at the huge SPC centre and enjoying the many cafes both at Shepparton and Mooroopna.
Our Moooving cow photographic competition was won by Robyn Nelson with Jan McIntyre coming second and our “Oh Bugger” award went to Rena Cotter.
This friendly group made for a very enjoyable rally.
