Yarrawonga Rally
Report 7th - 11th 2023 Robyn Nelson and Brigitte Salwat "Come when you can, leave when you must." |
Yarrawonga Report,
Thirty two intrepid travellers arrived at Yarrawonga Riverlands Caravan Park on Thursday 7th Sept. It was a cold start to the rally but this did not stop us from enjoying the afternoon and evening. The weekend began with the usual drinks and nibbles with lots of chatter and laughter. Some returned to watch the first of the AFL finals. Friday was again cold and a bit drizzly. Some went for a walk, others a drive or a walk in the town. A few met up for lunch at one of the local hotels. Most of the group found their way to Byramine Homestead for either lunch/ afternoon tea/ wine tasting. The homestead itself held some very interesting history, having been built by the explorer Hamilton Hume for his widowed sister-in-law who was shunned because of her convict descendance. The weather on Saturday was a little better, some people went for a walk, other’s a bike ride and a large group went for a ride on the Paddle Steamer. Dinner was at Club Mulwala and many of the group stayed on for the show. Sunday a large group went on a Silo Tour. We had heard a whisper that there was a new silo on show at Katamatite. After missing the turn the group soon found the silo and were treated to not only amazing artwork but the local pony club were arriving and were were able to say hi to the draught horses pulling a wagon and the local kids finishing off their trail ride. Aussie colours green and gold were certainly on show with the green fields and canola in bloom. Another place of interest was the local cactus farm, though we were a little early in the season to catch most of the glorious flowers.
Thanks everyone for making the weekend so enjoyable. Thanks to the new park managers who did a great job considering we were the first large group that they had in their park. Their free sausage sizzle on Friday and fundraiser scones with jam and cream were rally appreciated.
Robyn and Brigitte.
Note from Brigitte: I really feel that my name as an organiser was misleading, as Robyn did all the organisation. Thanks Robyn.
