Port Campbell Report
An enjoyable long weekend was had by 40 caravan club members at Port Campbell Holiday Park, which backs onto the river that flows out to the beach, a pretty location, the caravan park is large and well appointed.
Our Friday drive took us to The Arch, London Bridge, The Grotto, Peterborough, Bay of Martyrs, Bay of Islands, which is some of the best scenery on the Great Ocean Road, then onto Warrnambool for a well deserved lunch. Most people went their own way taking in the different sights and venues Warrnambool had to offer, with 3 members staying to see the night time Laser show at Flag Staff Hill. At Happy Hour we had use of the Recreation Room and as a treat Anita and Russell Orr entertained us with music and singing.
Saturday provided a free day to enjoy a drive to one of the interesting towns nearby or a walk to the beach or along the river to the scenic lookout with amazing views over Port Campbell. Others walked into town for a coffee or just relaxed in the park. Saturday’s meal was at the Port Campbell Hotel the food was great and they coped with the large number of people.
Sunday saw us visiting the picturesque 12 Apostles along the Great Ocean Road and some of the group descended the almost vertical steps to investigate Loch Ard Gorge. Not having time to stop at Gorge Chocolates we headed to Dairylicious Fudge for morning tea where their service and patience was tested by the arrival of an extra 12 more than booked, but they rose to the challenge and eventually served everyone with the delicious scones or cakes tea and Coffee. It was then on to Timboon which boasts some excellent shops for homewares, women’s clothing, local gourmet food, locally made ice-cream and handmade Whisky varieties. Those who returned to Schulz’s Creamery and Café enjoyed a late lunch in the gardens under the huge shady trees. That evening we were entertained with comedy and music by Gary Caulfield before saying our goodbyes as we headed home the next morning. We found 4 days were not sufficient to visit all the wonderful attractions the Port Campbell area has to offer, so many of us agreed to return another time.
