Marysville Rally Report 25th - 28th October 2019 Organisers: Margaret Comport & Val Wirtanen |
Marysville Rally .. 24th to 28th October 2019
Organised by Margaret and Val with 30 happy campers.
Due to closure of the Black Spur Road for tree lopping it was a very long drive through Yea and Alexandra to reach Marysville. But the Spur road was open for the Friday arrivals.
We began with very warm days and nights. At happy hour in our recreation room we appointed a “volunteer” air conditioner operator, although he later became a heater operator as the days became cooler and showers turned to rain.
Thursday was such a warm evening that after tea we drove and then all walked to the floodlit Steavensons Falls. The balmy evening, great company and spectacular falls made this an awesome experience.
On Friday Gerry led us on a cool and misty drive up the mountains. We all stopped at the Big Culvert in pouring rain (umbrellas, raincoats) to view the amazing engineering feat built back in the gold rush era. This was followed by a leech check, then picnic lunch in a shelter at Cambarville. Some eager walkers stomped through the overgrowth in search of the historical settlement, but fog rolled in so we all returned to Marysville for hot drinks at Coffee by the Falls Café and a visit to the adjoining op shop!! Later someone was sighted with bandaids on bloody spots high up the back of their legs – how did the leeches get that far up?
Our camp oven dinner in the rec. room that evening was great. We set up & decorated tables, while JoAnne cooked at her fire pit to prepare roast pork, beef, all the vegies, gravy and condiments plus really delicious desserts .. At just $30 pp!! With BYO drinks, coffee/tea on hand and no need to drive home, it was very good value and a fun evening.
Saturday was a casual day. Some went out to breakfast or to Alexandra to view open gardens. Others visited the Marysville Historical Society or meandered along the interesting shops. But some of us settled in the rec room to relax, chat and sort a jigsaw purchased earlier from the op shop. After happy hour & dinner we played card games or worked on the jigsaw til very late.
Sunday morning was the Marysville market, then after lunch most of us went to Bruno’s art & sculpture garden. Val arranged for him to chat with us before we ambled around the very interesting and quirky garden. Of course we went back to the coffee shop before returning for our final HH. After dinner some very keen people made a frantic attempt to complete the jigsaw???
Highlights of the weekend were our on-site dinner and the exclusive use of our community room that made it easy to relax, spread out our impossible jigsaw, or mingle and really enjoy each other’s company.
Thank you to Val for her assistance and to all for pitching in to make it a very friendly and fun weekend. Margaret Comport.
