Maryborough Rally
Report 15th - 19th September 2022 Ann & Bob Power "Come when you can, leave when you must." |
With a weather report of rain, rain, rain it didn't disappoint but we all managed to get out and about and enjoy ourselves, all 30 of us.
Friday was spent checking out the Maryborough railway station and a talk from the staff about its history and its current day workings. We followed with a yummy morning tea in the cafe which has a long history of 1st class passengers utilising this area for refreshments on their journey. The afternoon was free time to explore tiny towns nearby and Maryborough. Dinner was at Pipes Highland bistro where we were adequately filled with food and happy hour drinks. A raffle was won by a group member and we met another U3A group from Maryborough.
Saturday we headed off to Avoca to check out what it had to offer and then on to Redbank to Sally Paddock Winery. The staff were most gracious and sorted our food in a very organised fashion. We had a strolling guitar/banjo chap who sang some dittys and we joined in with voice and actions, including the hokey pokey.
Sunday had us all trotting off to Talbot to the farmers market with a small amount of drizzle. Some ended up at the Povedore to regroup, refresh and satiate themselves. From there more exploring of the area including wineries. Happy hour follows every evening with food, refreshments and lots of talk and laughter.
Overall the trip went well and the weather wasn't as bad as announced.
So I think we were blessed all round. On a personal note I just want to thankyou all as you are such a caring and supportive group, ready to go with the flow and help out when needed. I must apologise to the non attendance of Bob and myself for the last happy hour. Bob fell on the first night and was in a lot of pain so we lay down to rest and woke up when happy hour was over! As it turns out he has fractured his lower back and still in a lot of pain so will just take time to heal.
Regards,
Ann Power
